Hillingdon Council is encouraging residents and businesses to give their feedback on its draft plan for tackling climate change as it sets out to try and become the greenest London borough. The plan has been created to set out how it will lead the community toward that goal, while addressing the issue of climate change. It also wants to fulfil its commitment made last year to make council public buildings, fleet vehicles and street lighting carbon neutral by 2030.
The plan was created in response to the climate emergency declaration made by the council in January last year. It sets out a range of activities to help everyone reduce carbon emissions and the overall impact of climate change. It will also support other objectives that affect the day to day lives for residents, such as tackling fuel poverty, reducing air pollution and preventing flooding.
Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Housing and Regeneration, said: “We all have to play our part in tackling climate change to ensure our borough remains a healthy, happy place for people and nature when it’s handed down to future generations.
“We face a huge challenge, but one we’re ready to tackle, and our draft climate change action plan outlines how we’ll find ways to be more sustainable, energy efficient and improve our ecosystems so nature can thrive alongside people for years to come.
“We really want to hear the views of residents, businesses and local groups across the borough. We’re keen to include their views on what they feel are the most important climate-related challenges to tackle so we can make the borough greener and more sustainable.”
