For the twelfth consecutive year, Hillingdon Council has maintained its position as the leading UK authority for the number of Green Flag spaces, securing recognition for its exceptional parks and green spaces.

Announced earlier this week, the council has successfully retained its 67 Green Flags, an accolade that highlights parks and green spaces of the highest quality.

The council’s achievement comes amid a significant £1 million investment programme aimed at enhancing the borough’s parks and green spaces, a project initiated last year to celebrate Hillingdon’s upcoming diamond jubilee.

Recent renovations under the Parks Enhancement Programme include the bandstand in Barra Hall Park in Hayes. Future plans include improvements to landscaping, seating, pathways, and signage at Bessingby Park in Ruislip Manor, with additional upgrades at other locations to be announced.

The Green Flag Award, judged by various environmental charities including Keep Britain Tidy, sets the benchmark for accessible and high-quality public parks across the nation. Hillingdon Council has successfully retained its current Green Flag count for three consecutive years, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to maintaining excellent green spaces for the community.

Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services said: “This is fantastic news for residents who continue to see investment, maintenance and improvements to the green spaces which make our borough so pleasant.

“We’re committed to creating a green future for residents and nature and this is reflected in the continued prioritisation of our parks as key assets for all. The Green Flag Awards show these parks meet the highest international standards so we don’t take for granted having achieved the top spot nationally for 12 years in a row.”
