Hillingdon residents can look forward to an exciting summer filled with fun activities at their local leisure centres, thanks to Better’s newly announced summer programme for kids and families. This summer, there’s something for everyone, regardless of the weather, offering ample opportunities to stay active, have fun, and keep boredom at bay. Here’s a glimpse of what’s on offer:
Junior Gym: Available at Highgrove Pool, Botwell Green, Hillingdon Leisure Centre, and Queensmead, the Junior Gym sessions are designed for kids aged 11 to 17. Under the supervision of qualified gym instructors, youngsters can safely use gym equipment. During the holidays, there will be daily fitness challenges with prizes to be won.
Lounging at the Lido: If a trip abroad isn’t on the cards this year, Hillingdon Lido might be the next best thing. Visitors can relax on sun loungers, take a refreshing dip in the pool, and enjoy refreshments from the on-site café. Family swim sessions are available all summer from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. Tickets are priced at £7.70 for adult borough residents (£11 for non-residents) and £5.50 for children.
Free Water Safety Sessions: Held at Hillingdon Sports Centre, Botwell Green, and Highgrove Pool, these sessions are crucial for teaching kids aged 10 to 17 essential water safety skills. Hillingdon Swim School will conduct one-hour sessions throughout the summer, which must be booked in advance.
PSD Funweeks: Children aged 6 to 13 can enjoy PSD Funweeks at Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Centre. The programme includes a variety of multi-sports such as ping pong, dodgeball, tennis, cricket, and hockey, along with access to the athletics track. Arts and crafts activities are also included, as well as swimming sessions for confident swimmers. Free places are available for children eligible for free school meals. Contact the centre for prices and schedules. For complete details, visit Better Leisure Centres.
Summer Open Days: Residents are also invited to try something new during the Summer Open Days at their nearest Better leisure centre on 20-21 July. Further details can be found at Better Open Days.
Better leisure centres are operated by the charitable social enterprise GLL, dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of local communities. This summer programme is a testament to their commitment to providing valuable recreational activities for Hillingdon residents.
Keeley Shelton, GLL’s Partnership Manager in the region, comments, “Health and wellbeing has never been more important in Hillingdon. We are looking forward to welcoming local people to celebrate the Summer of Sport with us at our centres.
“Rain or shine, there’s something for every taste – and it all kicks off with our Open Days 20-21 July, where we invite kids and families to come along and try something new. You never know, you might discover a hidden talent or a new passion!”
