A 41‑year‑old woman has been ordered to pay a total of £2,514 after unlawfully using a relative’s Blue Badge to park on a single yellow line in Hayes.
The sentencing took place at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday (27 October), following a joint investigation by Hillingdon Council’s counter‑fraud team, its parking enforcement officers and the local police.
Sazia Ahmed, from Hayes, admitted to wrongful use of a Blue Badge in contravention of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The court imposed a contribution towards prosecution costs of £2,224, a fine of £207 and a victim surcharge of £83.
The operation, launched on 19 March, targeted several vehicles suspected of abusing Blue Badges near Dr Triplett’s Primary School during school pick‑up and drop‑off periods. At approximately 3:15pm, officers observed an Audi A5 parked on a single yellow line with a Blue Badge on the dashboard. When approached, Ahmed claimed the badge belonged to her mother, who was at home.
Officers reminded Ahmed that a Blue Badge may only be used when the badge holder is travelling in the vehicle or when the vehicle is used to collect or drop the holder off. Ahmed admitted she had used the badge while the holder was absent. The badge was seized and returned to Hillingdon Council.
Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “Blue Badges are intended for residents who need to legitimately access services and places where they would otherwise struggle, and using a badge in this way demonstrated a clear disregard for the rules.
“The council will continue to take the toughest action the law allows against those who abuse the system in our borough.”
