Two members of Just Stop Oil have scaled one of the gantries on the M25 between junctions 14 and 15 near Heathrow unveiling a banner which says “Just Stop Oil” causing miles of tailbacks.
In a statement, the protesters said that they have declared the M25 as a “site of civil resistance against the UK government” and that “they ask that no one travels on this motorway from Wednesday to Friday this week as they will be blocking the highway.”
The group are demanding that the government calls an immediate halt to new oil and gas projects in the UK.
The Metropolitan Police Service confirmed that the motorway has been closed between the two junctions and that officers remain on the scene.
