About Us

Welcome to Hillingdon Today. Your local online news service covering news and events throughout the towns and villages in the London Borough of Hillingdon. We also cover news in the bordering areas around us.

Our service started as a collaborative project between a local radio station and local residents who were tired of the lack of consistent local news coverage. A three-month trial project in late 2019 proved to be very popular with lots of positive comments from members of the community. The content from the original three-month trial has been archived on this website.

After seeking funding from local companies for the infrastructure needed to run the project, we are now pleased to bring you our service featuring the latest news and events throughout the towns and villages in the London Borough of Hillingdon.

The Hillingdon Today Logo

Our logo encapsulates the local community we serve.

Firstly, there is lots of green, leaves and trees. This is to highlight that Hillingdon is widely considered the greenest London borough and its green spaces have won over 67 Green Flag Awards.

At the heart of our logo is the Civic Centre, the seat of local government in the borough. The building is a prominent Grade II listed building famous for its 1970s “romantic pragmatism” style.

To the right of this is the control tower from London Heathrow Airport, the largest single-site employer in the UK and the dominant employer across the borough, accounting for approximately 22% of local employment.

To the left of this we see the canal as the London Borough of Hillingdon boasts more miles of canal than any other borough in London.

Below this to the right is the Beck Theatre in Hayes, which opened in 1977 and was funded by a bequest from Councillor Alfred Beck. This is the boroughs main theatre which hosts a variety of different shows from music to panto and everything in between.

To the right of this is the statue of Nipper the dog in Hayes commemorating the former headquarters and manufacturing plant of EMI Records, where the famous “His Master’s Voice” (HMV) brand and record-pressing industry was centred in times past.

To the right of this is Swakeleys House in Ickenham, a Grade I listed mansion built between 1629 and 1638 recognised as a premier example of 17th-century “Artisan Mannerism” architecture, blending traditional English brickwork with Dutch-style gables.

Finally, hiding behind, is one of the Elizabeth Line trains which provides fast, high-frequency, air-conditioned services to central London via key stations, including Heathrow Airport, Hayes & Harlington and West Drayton. The line has significantly improved access and reduced commuter times into central London making it a faster alternative to the London Underground stations found in the borough.

We are a small yet dedicated team and are always seeking more volunteers to join us. If you are interested or if you have any news stories you would like to submit, please read the Volunteer and Write For Us page on this website.
