Detectives investigating an assault in West Drayton are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

At approximately 9:15pm last Wednesday (8 September), the 32-year-old male victim was walking on the Grand Union Canal towpath between West Drayton and Hayes when a male riding a bicycle rode past him and slashed his upper body and neck before cycling away from the scene.

The suspect did not exchange any words with the victim and the attack appears to have been unprovoked and without motive.

The victim was assisted by a member of the public. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Detective Constable Ashleigh Nelson, from the West Area Command, said: “While a number of enquiries are underway to identify and apprehend this person, it is vital that we hear from anyone who either witnessed the incident or who knows the identity of the suspect.

“It was pure luck that the injuries sustained by the victim were not more serious.

“If you have any information that could assist our investigation please get in touch without delay.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Tweet @MetCC quoting 7619/8SEP or to remain 100% anonymous call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
