In the early hours of yesterday morning (25 April), firefighters were called to a fire that erupted at an asphalt plant located on Pump Lane in Hayes. The quick response saw six fire engines and approximately 40 firefighters mobilised to tackle the blaze.
Part of a storage silo containing four tonnes of asphalt was damaged by fire and the asphalt was removed by an onsite digger and extinguished.
Among the resources deployed was the Brigade’s 64-metre turntable ladder, which played a crucial role in managing the situation. The emergency call was received at 1:49am and by 3:42am, the fire was successfully brought under control.
Fire crews from several fire stations including Hayes, Southall, Wembley, and Northolt attended the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was accidental and caused by a mechanical failure within a heat extractor.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
