Around four fire engines and 25 firefighters from Hillingdon, Wembley, Willesden and Southall fire stations tackled a fire at a waste transfer site on Civic Way in Ruislip yesterday (5 December) at around 2:30pm.

Around 500 tonnes of waste in a pit 30 metres below ground level was alight. Approximately 40 tonnes was removed. There were no reports of any injuries.

The site is a major hub, transferring waste to the Severnside Energy Recovery Centre located beside the River Severn just north of Bristol, where is used to produce electricity.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and was under control by 5:05pm.
