A residential area in Southall was disrupted early this morning as emergency services rushed to Manston Avenue to tackle a fierce blaze that engulfed parts of a two-story detached house. The incident required six fire engines and approximately 40 firefighters.
Firefighters battled to contain the flames which ravaged a section of the roof and a small part of the first floor. The intensity of the fire necessitated the attention of crews from Southall, Heston, Hayes, and Feltham fire stations.
London Ambulance Service treated one individual at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further care. The incident unfolded at 5:38am and was successfully brought under control by 7:37am.
Investigations revealed that the fire was accidental and due to resistive heating in a bathroom extractor fan. No working smoke alarms were found in the property.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “This incident shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home.
“Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start except kitchens or bathrooms where heat alarms are more appropriate.”
