Firefighters saved two young lives from the River Colne in West Drayton in a water rescue operation last Wednesday (8 May).
Responding to a distress call, the crews utilised special water rescue equipment to extricate an 11-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy from the water. Both boys were promptly transported to the hospital. Fortunately, an adult man had managed to exit the water prior to the Brigade’s arrival and declined medical assistance.
The London Fire Brigade received the distress call at 6:39pm which resulted in firefighters from Heathrow, Hayes, Wembley, Bethnal Green and other surrounding fire stations.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The best thing you can do if you see someone in difficulty in the water is to call 999, try to give an exact location about where you are and keep your eyes on the last spot you saw them.
“If you go into the water to rescue people, pets or belongings, you could be putting yourself at risk as well.”
