Global Academy graduates Richard Bagnulo, Bruce Dodin, Russell Wiggins and Harry Diffey had a taste of success this week with two number one singles in the iTunes chart thanks to listeners of The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X. The collective formed the band ‘Blyth Road’ while at the Academy – named after the road the school is based in – and their track ‘Blood in my Alcohol’ landed the top spot beating the likes of Coldplay and Elton John.

One member of the group, Harry, who is currently working at Radio X on The Chris Moyles Show mentioned his school band to the team and the rest, as they say…. is history!

When Chris found out more about the band’s single, ‘Blood In My Alcohol’, he just had to do what he could to get it into the charts.

As usual, Chris mobilised his lovely listeners and they acted in their droves – sending the tune to the top of the charts. Not only did the band’s ‘Blood In My Alcohol’ track jump to the top of the iTunes alternative chart and the top of the main iTunes chart, but their other song, ‘Phantom’, went to number one in the metal chart too. Rock on!

Richard Bagnulo, who is the bands lead vocalist said: “We want to thank Global Academy for their studio facilities. Without them – the song would have never been made. Our teacher, Jason, worked so hard with us on the song – and his mix of the track has also made it into the charts too’

The former sixth form students studied a two-year Level 3 UAL Creative Media Production and Technology course at the Global Academy in Hayes – alongside an additional A Level Music Tech qualification. The students left in the Summer of 2019 and are now working in careers across marketing, radio and the music industries including their own production company, PipCo.
