Heathrow Airport strike planned for tomorrow and next Tuesday suspended

After six days of targeted strike action, the next two strikes planned for tomorrow (Saturday 13th) and next Tuesday have been suspended, however, the two remaining strikes for Thursday 18th and Sunday 21st remain in place.

The dispute started over the company’s decision to fire and rehire its workforce, forcing them onto new contracts resulting in pay cuts for some workers.

It is hoped that calling off the next two strikes will allow Heathrow Airport Limited time to fully consider the proposals and end the dispute.

Unite regional coordinating officer Wayne King said: “As an act of good faith and to increase the prospects of securing a negotiated settlement, Unite has suspended the next two days of strike action at Heathrow airport.

“This is as a result of [Heathrow Airport Limited] providing an initial positive response to Unite’s proposals, which could bring this bitter dispute to an end.

“However, if progress is not made, or [their] commitment to negotiate is less than genuine, then there will be further walkouts at the end of next week and more strike action is likely to be announced.”
