Heathrow Airport is buzzing with excitement as it kicks off its annual Whisky Festival today, promising a month-long celebration dedicated to the world’s favourite spirit. Teaming up with World Duty Free, the airport plans to host an array of whisky-themed events until May 14, inviting travellers on a journey through the rich and diverse world of whisky.
With whisky sales soaring to new heights, accounting for an impressive 70% of all spirits sold at Heathrow in 2023, it’s evident that the amber nectar holds a special place in the hearts of passengers. Topping the list of preferred spirits, whisky reigns supreme, closely followed by gin and cognac. Boasting an impressive selection of over 97 of the world’s most sought-after whisky brands, Heathrow stands as a global leader in whisky retail, offering travellers an unparalleled shopping experience.
This year’s Whisky Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever, with exclusive global product launches and immersive in-store events showcasing everything from rare and vintage bottles to innovative new blends. Whisky Ambassadors stationed across each terminal will assist passengers in finding the perfect gift or souvenir bottle, providing personalized advice tailored to every palate. Moreover, renowned experts from Pernod Ricard will grace Terminal 5 with free whisky masterclasses throughout April and May, sharing insights and tasting tips developed by the brand’s master blenders.
Among the highlights of this year’s festival are the global launches of new whisky lines and unique products available exclusively at Heathrow. Brands such as FABLE, Wildmoor, and Bushmills are set to unveil their latest creations, while The Dalmore will mark the occasion with the global launch of its new limited-edition release, Luminary No 2 2024 Edition single malt.
But the festivities aren’t limited to whisky aficionados alone. Foodies are in for a treat as Heathrow’s bars and restaurants roll out special whisky-infused menu items crafted specifically for the occasion. From Big Smoke Taphouse & Kitchen’s tantalising pulled pork burger with Monkey Shoulder glaze to Caviar House & Prunier’s smoked salmon with Woodford Reserve, there’s something to satisfy every palate.
Fraser Brown, Retail Director at Heathrow said: “As the world’s most connected airport, the annual Whisky Festival is an opportunity for us to celebrate the growing number of master-crafted world whiskies, as well as the great British brands creating one of our key exports. Whether picking up a bottle as a gift for a loved one or travel souvenir, Heathrow shoppers choose whisky over any other spirit. We are looking forward to hosting an exciting series of events that will introduce passengers to new ways to serve and enjoy whisky when they reach their destinations.”
