HGV carrying potatoes crashes on A40

Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the Western Avenue by the junction of Cayton Road in Greenford on Monday evening (21 March).

The incident, which happened at 7:08pm, was attended by two fire engines from Ealing and Northolt fire stations and a fire rescue unit from Heston Fire Station.

Fire crews made the scene safe after the articulated lorry, which was carrying 45 tonnes of potatoes, collided with three other vehicles and overturned.

The area was littered with hundreds of potatoes which spilled out of the vehicle.

Two people were treated at the scene by paramedics. A police spokesperson said: “[There are] no reports of any serious injuries” and that “enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
