Hillingdon Hospital, located on Pield Heath Road, has reiterated its ban on smoking and vaping across all hospital grounds, including entrances, car parks, and outdoor areas.

Last week, senior hospital staff, including Chief Medical Officer Dr Alan McGlennan and Chief Nurse Sarah Burton, joined Councillor Jane Palmer, Hillingdon Council’s cabinet member for health and social care, to unveil a new banner promoting the policy. In a statement, they said: “As a health provider we have a moral duty to protect our community and our staff.”

The hospital’s smoke-free stance aligns with its goal of promoting health and reducing risks associated with smoking and passive exposure. In support of the Government’s upcoming Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which seeks to ban smoking near schools, playgrounds, and hospitals, Hillingdon Hospital is stepping up efforts to foster a smoke-free generation.

Dr Alan McGlennan, Chief Medical Officer and Managing Director, said: “As healthcare professionals we see first-hand the devastating impact of smoking on individuals, families, and communities. Smoking-related illnesses remain one of the leading causes of preventable death and disease, and as a hospital, we have a duty to lead by example.

“We recognise that quitting smoking is a challenge, and we are here to help. We encourage anyone who needs support to access stop smoking services, including nicotine replacement therapies and tailored advice.”

Help to quit smoking can be found on the hospital’s website.
