In a significant stride toward enhancing accessibility within London’s transport network, Transport for London (TfL) has announced its intention to introduce step-free access at Northolt station. This move, unveiled today, underscores the capital’s commitment to fostering inclusivity in its public transportation system.
Bassam Mahfouz, the Labour Party’s London Assembly candidate representing Ealing and Hillingdon, has expressed enthusiastic support for the initiative. With a history of advocacy for improved transport accessibility, Mahfouz has been instrumental in previous campaigns that led to the installation of lifts at Greenford and Hanwell stations.
The forthcoming introduction of step-free access at Northolt station marks a significant milestone in TfL’s ongoing accessibility initiatives. Works are slated to commence early next year, promising to enhance the travel experience for a broader spectrum of commuters.
Cllr Bassam Mahfouz, Labour’s London Assembly candidate for Ealing & Hillingdon, said: “I am thrilled to see TfL and the Mayor’s commitment to enhancing accessibility across London’s transport infrastructure. Step-free access is not just about convenience; it’s about ensuring equal opportunities for all members of our community to travel independently and with dignity. “The upgrades at North Acton and Northolt stations will undoubtedly improve the daily lives of countless individuals, including those with disabilities, parents with young children, and elderly passengers.”
